b1 writing crime and safety. safer cities

Level: B1
Topic: Crime & Safety – Safer Cities
Text Type: Formal Letter

In this B1 Writing Worksheet, students learn how to write a formal letter to local authorities expressing concern and giving suggestions to improve safety in their city.

They practise key writing functions such as:

  • Expressing concern and making polite suggestions

  • Using formal connectors (First of all, Secondly, Finally, In my opinion)

  • Structuring ideas clearly into paragraphs

The lesson also reinforces useful expressions for formality (e.g. I am writing to express my concern about…, Thank you for your attention, Yours faithfully), and promotes the use of modals for polite recommendations (should, could, would be a good idea to…).

By the end of this task, students will be able to write short, well-organised formal letters with an appropriate tone, clear purpose, and cohesive structure — skills that are essential for B1 written exams and real-life communication.
