B1 SPEAKING MONOLOGUE TECHNOLOGY AND GADGETS

Task Type: Individual monologue
Topic: Technology – Your favourite gadget
Speaking Time: 2.5–3 minutes

This B1 speaking task with a sample answer helps students develop structured oral production by talking about a familiar, real-life topic: a personal gadget they use every day.

Students are guided to speak clearly and logically about:

  • how often they use the gadget,

  • what they use it for,

  • why it is useful,

  • and its disadvantages.

The task encourages extended speaking, helping learners move beyond short answers and into connected discourse, which is essential at B1 level.

It includes a speaking monologue sample.

Why you will love using this task

✔ Develops fluency and confidence in monologue speaking

✔ Reinforces functional language for describing use, purpose, advantages, and drawbacks

✔ Encourages organization of ideas (introduction → development → conclusion)

✔ Uses a highly relatable topic, reducing anxiety and boosting participation

✔ Ideal for exam preparation (EOI / Cambridge / Trinity-style speaking)
