Task Type: Individual monologue
Topic: The Media – The Role and Limits of Humour
Speaking Time: 4–5 minutes

In this C1 speaking task, students deliver a structured, well-argued monologue discussing the role of humour in the media and the limits it should have when it becomes offensive.

Learners are expected to:

  • analyse the function of humour in traditional and digital media,

  • evaluate where the limits should be drawn,

  • balance freedom of expression and social responsibility,

  • and reflect on the impact of humour on diverse audiences.

The task requires students to express nuanced opinions, justify them with reasoning, and show awareness of context, intention, and consequences.

Why you will love using this task

✔ Develops advanced oral fluency and sustained discourse

✔ Trains critical thinking and argumentation at C1 level

✔ Encourages balanced viewpoints, not extreme positions

✔ Activates complex grammar naturally (inversion, passive voice)
